Norse Moon Cycles: Skerpla

The month of Skerpla is when a few agricultural activities occur as well as some traditional regional activities. For the farmer, this is the start of planting season for a few crops, this is the time to take provisions to the market at the Várþing to sell.

The Varþing was the regional thing to settle disputes and legal contracts before the Allthing. It was the time for a community market for people to sell goods they had made during the winter months.

It is the time for moving of livestock into the summer pastures (Selsför) after offering sacrifices and offerings to the landvaetter there for the protection of the herd. Skerpla is a month of hard labor, but also time spent with neighbors and friends.
